Below are a few events happening across the watershed, along with a few virtual events you can enjoy from the comfort of your home. The Alliance encourages all our friends and partners to join us in recognizing the Juneteenth Holiday. Take an opportunity to learn, discuss, or celebrate in your community – and walk away with growing knowledge of where we have been and where we hope to go in our effort for social and racial justice.
This past Friday, April 1st marked the official kick-off of our 18th annual Project Clean Stream (PCS) season! Every year PCS brings together thousands of volunteers to pick up trash from local streams, creeks, rivers, parks, and neighborhoods throughout the Chesapeake watershed.
So far in April, we have over 50 events registered and 18 of those happened this past weekend with four of them hosted by Alliance staff at each one of our regional offices!
Over the last few months, there have been some additions here on the Alliance team. It is with great excitement that we announce three new staff members! Read on to learn more about each of these passionate new employees and hear how they will help us increase our impact!
Today, officials from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and representatives from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF), and the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay (Alliance) are in the field meeting with dairy farmers in Pennsylvania and key corporate partners to discuss collaborative efforts that support local dairy farmers by promoting healthy farms, clean water, and other environmental benefits.
The Alliance is excited to launch a new project, Maintaining Best Management Practices in the Anacostia Watershed, to increase the functionality of green infrastructure practices for healthier lands and water and to promote workforce development opportunities, particularly within overburdened and under-resourced communities.

Home composting need not be complicated, messy, or odorous. It need not require much space or specialized training. In fact, it is quite forgiving. You can build a bin or two, or leave it as a pile. It’s really up to you. Follow a few basic guidelines, and you’ll be storing soil carbon like a pro!
Celebrate riparian buffers this October during the first annual Riparian Buffer Month! The Alliance is partnering with the Chesapeake Conservation Landscaping Council (CCLC) to promote riparian buffers and illustrate why they are so important to the health of the Chesapeake’s waterways. They deserve to be celebrated!
