Ryan was born less than a mile from the Susquehanna River in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and grew up mostly on the coastal plain of Virginia and North Carolina. He earned a B.S. in Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology with a minor in Forestry at North Carolina State University, and attended West Virginia University for an M.S. in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology. He has worked as a field biologist in North Carolina, Nevada, Missouri, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Ryan joined the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay in April 2017. He is the Senior Forests Projects Manager, where he focuses on reforestation, forest management, and education within the watershed in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New York.
